Description: Large version of the iconic pictorial world map designed by Lucien Boucher for Air France. Numerous vignettes illustrate special landmarks, people and animals. The borders are illustrated with vignettes representing European explorers discovering the world and scenes of Asians and Africans. Between the hemispheres, there is an ornate compass rose and an inset zooming in on the flight routes available in western Europe and North Africa. Behind the title banner, there are monuments from some of the great cities of Europe.
Lucien Boucher is a commercial poster artist and illustrator born in Chartres in 1889 and died in 1971. Graduated from the Ecole de céramiques de Sèvres, he began his career as a cartoonist for the satiric newspaper Le Rire. In the 1920s he worked actively as a poster designer for the movies and the advertising industry. He designed a significant number of lithographies inspired by the surrealism style. He’s very well known for his posters designed for Air France.
