This is a fine example of Borsalino’s prime craftsmanship in the late 40s. This homburg is in mint condition, with the original box, and it has great proportions. No stingy brim here! The hat is medium-grey with a light-grey, curled grosgrain stitch and ribbon.

There is no damage to the felt, and it looks very clean and fresh. I was not able to find any felt discoloration, grime, or staining. The crown, brim, and ribbon are outstanding. There is a tiny bit of indentation over part of the brim, seen in the photos, where the hat was naturally sitting in its hat box, but it will re-fluff with some brushing, or steam, if desired.

It was manufactured for the Italian market, and should be made of European hare, rabbit, and possibly some beaver. This hat features incredibly soft, dense, and malleable felt. The only reason I’m selling this hat is that it’s too small on me. It is a standard 6 7/8 in American sizing; the size 5 comes from the Punti measurement system that they used in Italy back then.

The dimensions are as follows:

Grosgrain Ribbon height: 2”

Brim length: 2.5”

Crown height in its current shape: 5”

Grosgrain curl height on the side: 3/4”

Grosgrain curl height on the front: 3/8”

This hat is a great option for a gentleman looking for a dapper grey hat. I’m sure Sven Schneider from the Gentleman’s Gazette would approve. Watch his YouTube channel for homburg inspiration. Thanks for your interest, and please ask any questions you may have.
