Sheep Shaped Cast Iron Black Door Stop or Windmill Weight

Nicest condition of any of these I've seen.

9.5" long, 3.5" wide, 8" tall.   5.3 pounds of solid cast iron.

Windmill weights were used during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, windmill weights were made in a wide variety of forms. Some were used as governor weights, later replaced by springs.

Others were used as a counter-balance on vaneless mills only to be replaced by tail vanes and stems as oil-bath mills were developed.

"Upper Deck 1988" impressed into the metal on one side so I presume this is a faithful reproduction of an original windmill weight.

Nice, vintage folk or rustic art that will last for a lifetime.
