The Complete Works of Count
Tolstoy Vol I by Leo Tolstoy 1904, Hardback
‘Childhood, Boyhood, Youth, The
Incursion’
Author:
Count Lev N. Tolstoy, Translator: Leo Weiner, Publisher: J.M. Dent & Co Used:
Very Good Antique Condition
This
1904 Hardback Edition is in very good condition for it’s age accompanied with three
lovely illustrations of the narrators life as it is a trilogy chronicling the emerging
years of youth. The spine of the book has some wear and tear and the first page
at the front and the last page of the back has a type of stain that doesn’t seem
to go through the other side, but otherwise the book itself is in excellent condition.
The
book was published by J.M. Dent and Sons in 1904 as an English translation
which seeks to translate the book without any attempts ‘to correct Tolstoy’s
style’. In the first page is a lovely, signed inscription of the books previous
owner dating back to 1911.
The
pages of the fore edge of the book seem to be purposely frayed, as was the
process at the time, in what was known as deckle edge and the head and tail are
gilded edged.
A
lovely book for any collection.
