Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California was used as a trash dump from the 1940s all the way to the late 1960s. The unique geography caused the glass to stay in place and, eventually over time, become polished into beautiful gems. 

It is now illegal to  take any glass or pottery from Glass Beach...
