Schlumbergera are fabulous houseplants for brightening up the home.

You can force flowering all year round by placing the plant in at least 12hrs of darkness a day for a couple of weeks, this can be achieved by placing the plant in a cupboard or by just putting a tea towel over it. Once you see little buds forming you can stop restricting light.

These plants will naturally flower in the darker months if left alone.
