Movie Synopsis: After the murder of his childhood friend, the slick Detroit detective, Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), heads to sunny Beverly Hills, on a one-man mission to ferret out the killer and bring him to justice. Before long, Axel and his unorthodox methods unearth the lucrative drug operation of the powerful local crime kingpin, Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff); however, Foley, too, will find himself in deep trouble, as Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil (Ronnie Cox) wants him out of town. Now, Axel will have to team up with Detectives, John Taggart (John Ashton), and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), to shed light on the thick conspiracy, and finish what he has started.

How Our Posters Are Graded: All images of the posters are of the actual poster for sale so what you see is what you get; we do not use stock photos.

Very Fine: Almost Mint: Unused with no flaws.

Fine:  Generally unused with the original folds or rolled. There may be some slight minor edge wear due to storage and, possible signs of minor ageing but no significant flaws.

Very Good:  These have the usual folds or are rolled posters possibly with pinholes, very light blue tack stain spots, minor edge or fold wear, minor splits or tears, and unobtrusive stains but no paper loss.

Good: Has possible staining, pinholes, minor paper lifts in corners, small tears (possibly taped on reverse) slight fold separations, minor paper loss, and possible blue tack stain spots, and edge wear but still good enough to frame.

Fair: These posters will need some restoration and are usually only sold on this site if they are very rare and hard to find. There will be a combination of tears, paper loss, staining, pinholes and blue tack stains but because of the rarity of the poster, worth linen backing.

British Movie Poster Sizes

Quad movie poster (30” x 40”) was issued on both paper stock and card stock. The British Quad poster is in the horizontal format and as such, the image was not a duplicate of the American one sheet poster. The Quad is the most common and most collectible of British movie posters. British Quad posters used to be issued folded but are now issued rolled.

Double Crown: 20" x 30", printed on paper stock.

One Sheet: 27" x 40". Not as common as the Quad.

3-Sheet: 41" x 81". Not as common as the US 3-sheet.

Underground Poster aka Giant Fly: Approximately 65" x 40", printed on paper stock; used on the walls of mass transit underground stations and bus shelters. When this size is not produced, several copies of international one-sheets are grouped to fill the display area.

Front of House (FOH): 10" x 8", printed on card stock; usually issued in sets of eight in colour for display in theatre lobbies, especially in the UK. They are often smaller versions of lobby card sets.

Billboard: 80” x 90” The top ten inches are left blank so the theatre information can be put in later, as with US window cards.

More about Australian Movie Posters: The hand litho process was usually utilized for Australian daybill posters resulting in a rich texture of artwork with subtle toning that was often unique to Australia.

The artists would generally use US poster art or press book images for their inspiration and they would either trace or use their own imagination or a combination of both to come up with a design for the poster. The daybill sizes varied considerably from 13" x 30" from the 40s to the mid-60s to 13" x 26" in the 80s. The Australian one-sheets were normally 27” x 40” as compared to the US 27” x 41” one-sheets.

Certain firms seem to predominate during certain periods, such as W.E. Smith of Sydney during the 1940s and 1950s. Several other printers like F. Cunninghame & Co. Pty. Ltd. (litho) Sydney, Royelltone Prints Pty. Ltd., and Simmons Ltd. printed older posters but W.E. Smith and Robert Burton produced most.

During the 70s M.A.P.S started producing movie posters and there is an overlap where both Robert Burton and M.A.P.S printed some of the same original posters.

Other printers like Brown Prior Anderson in Burwood, Victoria, Australia, also printed some of the B grade and R rated Australian posters and, some of the film distributors like Roadshow produced their own posters.

It is important to note that daybills for the original release of a film often included a lesser duotone and black and white style. In many cases these are mistakenly referred to as copies or later reissues but they were generally released at the same time the full colour versions were issued so are also originals.
