POSTER STAMPS PLANETS & FIXED STARS METEORS SATURN COPERNICUS LICK OBSERVATORY USA TOBLER

This is a marvellous set of 12 poster stamps (n. 529 – n. 540) edited by Swiss firm Chocolat Tobler. The set represents series n.45 published by Tobler in the 1920’s and relates to the planets and fixed stars.

The stamps with descriptive text in English were inserted inside the chocolate plates between the wrapper and the aluminium foil for children to collect them.

The collection is complete which add to the extreme difficulty of having all of them stay together after almost a century of age. The stamps are made of-thin paper with dimension 1.6 x 2.2 inches.Traces of difficult readable text on the back of the stamps.

Of particular curiosity is the stamp n. 534 “ Moon landscape with view upon the Earth”

as the artist had the idea that Africa and other continents could easily been observed.
