Bronze Marquette by John Stuart Dowie OM - Alexander Cameron.

This fine work was sculpted by famous South Australiansculptor and painter John Dowie (1915-2008) as the Marquette for one of hislast major works, the life size bronze of settler Alexander Cameron, whichstands in Penola, South Australia.

 Cast by JohnWoffinden of Mylor for Dowie, this unique bronze is regarded by many as morepleasing to the eye than the life size work.

Purchased in 2000 from the Penola District Cultural Fundfollowing the unveiling of the life size work, this 59 cm high figure isavailable on a rough sawn local sandstone base provided by the current owner asan option.

John Dowie AO, is regarded as one of Australia’s greatestsculptors, whose many renowned Adelaide works include the Victoria Squarefountain, the Victor Richardson Gates at Adelaide Oval, the Sir Ross and SirKeith Smith fliers memorial at Adelaide Airport. Famous National works includeIcarus at Melbourne Airport and Queen Elizabeth the 2nd , ParliamentHouse, Canberra.

John Dowie is well represented internationally withsculpture of Beethoven in the Netherlands, Churchill and Queen Elizabeth the 2ndin London, Lord Casey in Washington D.C. and the war memorial in the SolomonIslands amongst several others.
