1976 D Roosevelt Dime ERROR Extreme Die Approximation, Inadequate Ram Pressure Strike

TheCoinMiner offers this great 1976 D Roosevelt Dime ERROR - Inadequate Ram Pressure Strike

Pressure strike errors are not extremely uncommon, but they are with this much disparity between the front (‘obverse’) and the back (‘reverse’).

Small coins – like dimes - have thin planchets. When dies strike thin planchets they always have, by design, have a very narrow minimum die clearance. When one die does not fully stamp (‘strike’) via applied tonnage - you get what you see here – a pressure strike error. Also known as insufficient die approximation.

Larger coins have more tolerance and so you don’t often see this error. 1976 (and 1975) dimes from Denver mint have errors more common than the other yeas – guess the workers started their bicentennial party early.

Not a broadstrike, since edge design details are completely missing (on the reverse).

Not a die adjustment. Not a grease filled die.

The obverse is strong, and may have double struck.

We grade about uncirculated, lower end; someone pulled this aside soon after it began circulating.

Neat piece.

Hard assets such as silver and numismatic coins have proven a consistent and reliable way to circumvent decline in other investment/portfolio holdings excessively tied to the value of paper currency.
