Whether you've just pulled your old Atari ST out of the attic for some retro gaming fun, or you are a long term Atari ST user, this upgraded and refurbished Mitsumi SR-98 power supply is the perfect replacement or upgrade for your old or failing Atari ST internal PSU!
Please note that this PSU is designed for the EU / UK market and requires a 220/240V mains supply. It can be used in US machines but it will not work on a 110V mains supply!
These units have been fully refurbished, upgraded and fully cleaned & tested to ensure safe, reliable, long-term operation - in addition to replacing all electrolytic capacitors with new high quality, 105C rated, low ESR, Wurth branded replacements, the value of the output side capacitors has been increased compared to the original design to improve output regulation. Not only do these Wurth capacitors significantly improve the overalll operation and long term reliabiltiy of the PSU, but we think they look great too! On this model, we also replace the original output rectifier diode with a new faster switching STPS10H100CFP schottkey diode that offers lower voltage drop and hence significantly cooler running compared to the original, and the input side bridge rectifier which was prone to failing in the original design due to it being rather under-rated, is also now replaced with a new 6Amp 600V rectifier.
Why replace my PSU? - Even if it hasn't failed yet, the original PSU in your Atari ST is now more than 30 years old and like any electronic equipment, components age, time takes its toll, and the risk of failure and potentially significant damage to the Atari ST increases with time. Electrolytic capacitors dry out as they age causing their effectiveness to decrease and putting additional stress on the drive components in the PSU - eventually this can result in catastrophic failure of the PSU, and with some PSU models, this can also result in significant damage to the Atari ST itself - many of the parts in the ST are no longer made so are becoming more expensive and harder to find so using an old PSU can turn out to be an exensive mistake. Its fair to say, the orignal Atari ST PSU's were also built on a budget - Its widely known that Atari used cheap 85C rated capacitors with relatively poor ESR values in their PSUs, and as mentioned above, there is significant room for improvement with some of the other components as well. All of this is taken care of with our replacement PSUs and we believe our PSUs offer a safe, reliable long term replacement for your aged Atari PSU. Further to all this, if you send us back your old PSU*, we will issue you a £15 refund making this a very cost-effective upgrade for your beloved Atari ST!
*The returned PSU doesn't have to work but it must be complete and un-modified and in good physical condition. We may reduce the refund value for power supplies that are sent back incomplete, modified or physically damaged. You are responsible for the postage costs of returning your PSU and you must ensure that it is well packed to avoid damage in transit.
