Mafalda is a fictional character starring in the comic strip of the same name made by the Argentine Joaqu n Lavado, in Quino art, published from 1964 to 1973, very popular in Latin America and Europe. The series was published in newspapers, magazines, and books becoming world famous as well as becoming the subject of extensive merchandising and starring in two series of animated short films and, in 1982, an animated feature film. Three statues have been dedicated to the character, the best known of which is between Defensa and Chile streets in the San Telmo neighborhood of Buenos Aires; there is also a commemorative plaque on the building in which the author lived when he conceived the character.
