AFRICAN REFLECTIONS ART FROM NORTHEASTERN ZAIRE
SCHILDKROUT & KEIM 1990 DJ NEAR FINE. I have been procrastinating
with the listing of a series of scarce and unique books about African Art,
mainly because I cannot put them down once I start looking at them. I am sure many of you will feel the same
way. For your consideration then, I am pleased
to offer a very large hard cover book titled: “African Reflections—Art from Northeastern Zaire,” by Enid
Schildkrout and Curtis A. Keim. This
large hard cover book (9 ¼ x 12 ¼ inches, 272 pages) was published by the
University of Washington Press, Seattle in cooperation with the American Museum
of Natural History, New York, dated 1990.
The book is bound in a finely woven black cloth with silver gilt titles
on cover and spine. It is protected by a
double edge-folded pictorial dust jacket.
Content: From the flap of the dust jacket, I quote:
“African Reflections is a companion to an exhibition developed by the American
Museum of Natural History in 1990. More
than one hundred new color photographs of objects from the American Museum’s
Congo Expedition of 1909-15 are included, along with many fine archival
photographs taken by Herbert Lang on the expedition. The book also includes photographs of many of
the earliest known objects from this region from the collections of the British
Museum, the Musee royal de l’Afrique central, and other major European museums,
as well as color photographs of the Mangbetu people today.” I will include a photo of the Table of
Contents for your further information.
Condition: This book is in near fine condition. There are some tiny wrinkles along the top
edge fold of the dust jacket and some very light scuffing along the seams of
the folds. The covers themselves are
pristine, clean and undamaged in any way, with bright silver gilt titles. Inside, the book is unmarked and unblemished
in any way and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. The hinges are fully intact and the binding
is tight and square. This book is not
ex-library or a remainder.
Shipping: This book will be very carefully packed, with
bubble wrap and solid cardboard protection and promptly mailed upon payment. Please note that I do not charge for packing
and handling; all you pay is the postage and sometimes not all of that! Postage
to US addresses for this large-sized hard cover book will be only $5.00 for
media mail. International and
Canadian buyers should be aware that this large book will exceed the four pound
weight limit for First Class International Mail and will therefore require a US
Postal Service International Priority Medium Flat Rate Box for shipping. Combined shipping for multiple purchases is
gladly offered. You will pay full price
for the shipping of the first book and half price for any others purchased that
same week. For example, two books with
shipping at $4 each will ship for $6 combined.
Please see my other books on offer including any
number of other truly vintage and/or collectible books about African Art, quite
a mixed bag but hopefully appealing to some of you.
Please don’t hesitate to send in any questions; I will
