When I was a kid, my dad brought home a one-fourth-inch reel-to-reel tape recorder from work - positively state-of-the-art in 1967. With brothers Mike and Don, I recorded epic WWII battles and adventures on the moon (eerie moon effects made possible by a fancy "echo" knob). Playing the recordings back for anyone who would listen, I reveled in how simple recording tricks - like crinkling paper to simulate the sound of fire - could fool an audience.

Audio is a unique medium because it invites listeners to become a part of the process, to interpret what they hear, however they'd like, whereas motion pictures leave no such room for input.

When high school rolled around, my pal Sam Raimi and I both shared the same radio speech class, which led to a morning radio show on Fridays, during homeroom. It was a great opportunity to explore the medium more seriously - this time with sounds effects from professional libraries, and music that even came in on cue! Although clunky and amateurish, the experience hooked me on audio forever.

With the completion of this book, the prospects of doing a "regular" audio adaptation weren't very appealing. But then a few things dawned on me: First, that I'm the lead character of the book; second, as an actor by trade, I could play the part; and third, I'm knee-deep in actor pals - why not record the book like a radio play?

So that's exactly what happened.

I rounded up an excellent troupe of thespians, from both Los Angeles and my home state of Oregon, and we recorded what was to become an unabridged, six-hour epic program.

I hope you enjoy Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way - and thanks for listening!
