DATE PRINTED: 1809 (dated on the print).

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approx. 7.5" x 9" (19 cm x 23 cm) plus margins.

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER:  Drawn by J.R. Thompson and engraved by John Roper (1771-1810). 

PROVENANCE:  A plate first published in Cole and Roper's "The British Atlas " in 1804. The maps subsequently appeared in Joseph Nightingale’s (fl.1806-20) 'English Topography' and updated with early railways and plate numbers in Thomas Dugdale’s 'Curiosities of Great Britain or England and Wales Delineated'. The latter was published by John Tallis until Lucinda Tallis took over her husband’s business when he died; their son, John Tallis, published this work with from c.1843. Occasionally the publisher also included the maps in their series 'The Beauties of England and Wales' c.1810 from where this example is taken.   

TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

CONDITION: Very good. Suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian maps and prints are subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.

It is not a modern copy. The term 'original' when applied to a print means that it was printed at the first or original date of publication; it does not imply that the item is unique.
