Photograph Notes: The Nissan Leaf car is not a very frequently seen sight on British roads. The all-electric car produces no tailpipe pollution or greenhouse gas emissions at the point of operation (though the electricity generated to recharge its batteries has to be produced somehow...) Leafs are more likely to be seen plugged into their chargers than on the open road, as they can take some eight hours to fully recharge, and then only have a range of some 100 miles. Decals on the car pictured show it to be operated by Dumfries and Galloway Council, and is part-funded by Transport Scotland. The car is standing in the car park of Annan swimming pool. The building in the background is part of Annan Academy.
