Description:

A well preserved first edition with interesting provenance, having been presented to Warrington Public Library by Joseph Mayer, owner of the "original Manuscript" mentioned in the title, upon which this translation is based. Mayer, a jeweller and silversmith by trade, was a prolific collector of antiquities, gifting much of his collection to Liverpool Museum in 1867.

This volume rebound in a red half leather and cloth library binding, with gilt title and Dewey number to spine, remaining sound and firm with just a little rubbing to extremities. Recent plain endpapers with armorial bookplate of Warrington Municipal Library to front pastedown. Title-page printed in black and red, with small repair to top corner, and contemporary inscription reading, "Presented to the Warrington Public Library by Joseph Mayer", with circular ink stamp of Warrington Museum and Library beneath. Text-block remains sound, pages a little age-toned with some scattered spotting, else in good order throughout.
