Volumes 1 and 3 of a 3 volume set. Volume 2 is missing.  Volume 1 has li, 335 pages;  volume 3 has 364 pages plus table.


Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656-1708) was a French botanist.  These books give his account of a trip into the eastern Mediterranean, Greek islands, Black Sea region, Armenia, and Georgia, describing plants, geography, and people.


There are many plates in each volume, primarily depicting plants, but some are of the people and geography. Volume 1 has 50 numbered plates; volume 3 has plates numbered from 91 to 152. Some are folding.


About good condition: wear to covers; joints cracked; each cover of volume 1 holding by 2 out of 3 cords; front cover of volume 3 is holding by 2 out of 3 cords; title page of volume 3 is detached; interior is clean and crisp.
