Description:


A two-volume set of this sixth title in the series of Bridgewater Treatises. Not stated, but believed to be a second edition copy. Bound in contemporary half calf and marbled paper-covered boards, spines with four raised bands, gilt lettering on morocco labels. Externally, both volumes remain sound and firm, boards rubbed and a little scuffed with wear to extremities, small loss at head of spine of Vol. 2. Internally, both volumes also sound and firm. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown, one with lower corner removed, the other with name removed. Brief inscription to ffeps ('Abbotsbury 1843'). Vol. 2 lacking rfep. Both volumes lacking the series titles. Small loss to top corner of Vol. I title-page. Endpapers and first/last few leaves with notable foxing, browning to first page of index, otherwise pages generally a little age-toned with some foxing and other blemishes, a little damp staining along top edge of pages in Vol. 2. Two ink annotations in Vol. I (pp. 55 & 618). All plates present (see note above), these with varying degrees of foxing and age-toning. The large folding cross-section with significant vertical creasing where previously folded incorrectly. A few plates with repairs, particularly the large folding plate 26b (footprints).
