Description:

A very handsome nine-volume set of the second edition, bound as five. In full sprinkled calf with gilt-ruled border and decorative gilt edging to boards, spines with five raised bands, gilt lettering on morocco labels, and gilt-ruled detailing to compartments. Boards with wear to extremities, bumping to corners. Spines with some chipping and small loss at ends. Joints cracking with a few minor chips, just a little movement to upper board of Vol. I, all other boards firmly attached. Text-blocks remain firm, pages with some foxing and age-toning, very occasional marginal loss. Vol. IV with worm-track to top margin from p.31 onwards (inc rear eps). Vol. I with series title-page dated 1745 (each volume title dated 1744), with advertisement leaf and 8pp subscribers list following. Overall, a lovely second edition set of Leland's Itinerary.
