1772 HALF PENNY George III (1760-1820) Copper  Coin

Laureate and cuirassed bust of King George III facing right, legend around.

Script: Latin

Seated figure of Britannia facing left, trident in left hand, olive branch in right, shield with Union flag resting on left, legend around, date in exergue.

Comments

Genuine halfpennies weigh around 9.2-10.8g and since they were struck without a collar, the diameter tended to vary between 28.5 and 30mm. Contemporary counterfeits are fairly common, especially 1775-dated pieces, and they are smaller in size and generally thinner.
