OVERVIEW:  Here’s a c1885 sterling brooch by Howard Sterling Co. of Providence.  This is a great example of this company’s distinctive & detailed aesthetic.  The design incorporates a yoke, “rope” made from silver chain, and a medallion depicting two horses racing (looks like it’s going to be a close call).  The medallion has intentional “cracks” along the edges, a feature found on jewelry from this era by Howard, Shiebler, F. Whiting, etc.  This brooch has its original findings on the back.  A wonderful Victorian equestrian theme brooch!
