She is scorned by all the world beside,
Who hath been betrayed by one!

Here we offer the first edition of the literary collection, The Keepsake for 1839, published by Longman, Orme, Brown, Green, and Longmans, Paris, in 1839. This book is notable for featuring two poems and the short story, "Euphrasia, a Tale of Greece," each by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. The story is signed "Mrs. Shelley" and the poems are signed "Author of Frankenstein". There were planned and listed 12 illustrations but it looks as though there was a publishing error, as the illustration "The Tableau" is missing, but the illustration "Constantine and Euphrasia" is mislabeled "The Tableau." As there is no sign an illustration has been removed, it appears to be a printer's error. The book is finely-bound in 3/4 leather, and features 11 tissue-protected engravings and gilt all the way round (to keep dust out.)

Binding is excellent (please see pics.) Intact, uninscribed endpapers.  Excellent hinges. The binding is very tight and square. The text is very clean, bright, and crisp. Illustration pages are foxed and lightly-stained, as they are of a different composition. 272 pages.  The book measures approximately 9.25 x 6.5-inches.

This beautiful edition will make a cherished compliment to your collection or a very special gift.
