"THE STORY BEHIND THE GLASS
It all started long ago in Todi (Italy) where I ordered a ‘duvel' in a bar but they didn't have the right glass for it.
The beer was served in a simple wine glass and that's how I came up with the idea of designing a duvel glass. Through a friend I managed to get hold of original beer glasses with 'D' engraving on the bottom.
At that time, the Italian radio station 'Radio Virgin' was playing 'Sympathy for the Devil' in that pub. I have to say this is my 'favorite Stones song ever' and this was the deciding factor.
The logo has been created!
But, I also have
sympathy for the other devils (flavors) of this beer brand,
&
sympathy for the red devils football team.
So it became clear.
The glass will be 'Sympathy For The Devils'.
It eventually became a very limited, signed and numbered edition of only 6 pieces.
'Less is more' has always been my motto as a designer, so I don't use flashy colors or drawings that only detract from the iconic glass. Only a modest engraving so that the beer with its bubbles and foam head remains as visible as possible in the glass.
Last but not least, this subliminal message is meant to be for the lucky few who appreciate the story behind this glass.
