Here is a rare, antique, Qing Chinese bowl, mortar, or ashtray made of a soft stone like marble. I do NOT believe it is soapstone as it doesn't have the feel, and I have handled many, many pieces of soapstone over the years as a dealer.
It is hand-carved with low-relief, stylized dragons of an almost archaic design.
It measures 2- 3/4 inches tall, by 4 inches in diameter, and it is 4- 3/8ths inches wide including the flanges at the top.

This item is in good, overall used antique, condition with some minor chips, bumps, and scuffing to the surface. The interior looks like it was used as a mortar, with much wear from grinding inside. The bottom shows a lot of wear and discoloration which leads me to believe it is from around the late Qing Chinese era. There is also some ink that got into to rough, carved surface. I have not attempted to clean this piece.
