Decorative Wooden Victorian Stick & Ball Gingerbread Fretwork Panel

This sturdy display piece measures 29" W x 23" H x 1 1/8" D

The fretwork is old and could use some TLC.

A good cleaning / refinishing would only improve the already impressive aesthetic this fretwork offers.

This would make a great addition to anyone looking to have a piece of history.

I don't claim to be an expert so please see photos and feel free to ask any questions. With the exception of 2 cracks in the wood (see last 4 photos) this appears to be in great condition considering the age.

I can't say what the exact age is but It's been in our immediate possession for 40 years so it's Vintage at the very least. Given the age of many other items we have obtained I would feel comfortable placing this into the Antique category It was obtained from a family member that passed away in the 80's who purchased complete estates lots throughout the Chicagoland area from the late 1940's thru the late 1970's.

There are no makers marks or stamps that would indicate mass production and the alignment of hole positions is not precise which leads me to believe this is a older piece. It looks like flat head nails nails were countersunk in frame hold it together (difficult to determine exact hardware due to age, dust/dirt, wood stain, and general buildup found in the holes) It's possible (but doubtful) that flat head screws were used and if so it would still most likely predate the invention of the phillips screw in the 1930's
