This rare and exceptional Japanese bronze okimono depicts an eagle and an imperial dragon in a fierce battle. The eagle is shown hovering in midair with its wings spread wide as the dragon retorts in twists and turns, attempting to escape the bird's giant talons. The two powerful creatures are beautifully sculpted in the round with distending wings and tails layered with feathers and scale textures. The imperial dragon represents wisdom and divinity, while the eagle symbolizes power.
