Up for sale is my beloved 1978 Peavey T-60. As you can see from the photos it is in excellent condition for a 45 year old guitar! It has had one previous owner to me and he had it sat in it’s case for a fair few years before I purchased it. The serial number is an 8M… which according to the T-60 Mafia site equates to a first year production run of 1978 - an increasingly rare model to find especially in this condition. All parts are stock and wiring in it’s original form.

The T-60 has a very unique distinct vintage sound. I can’t say I’ve come across another modern set of dual blade set of humbuckers that sound similar. If you are not familiar with the T-60 wiring, basically both humbuckers are designed to be split coiled - but the way you do this is via rolling the tone knobs back to 7. So at 10 it’s on single coil and as you roll back to 7 it blends into the humbucker it doesn’t just cut into the sound like with a push/pull pot. As you continue to roll back past 7 down to nothing the tone knob acts as a normal tone knob. There are various mods you can do to override this feature and you can even bypass the split coil/tone rolling off feature altogether but I figured this a a very unique feature to this guitar and at the time of 78’ would of been quite advanced. I wanted to sell this guitar completely as it was, unaltered and leave any mods/alterations down to the new owner should they want to do any.

The guitar also has an in/out of phase switch for when both pickups are selected. This as you can imagine, coupled with split coil options provide a host of varying tones and can do anything from a good chicken picking Tele spank to classic rock Les Paul sounds. This was one of the selling features when this guitar first came out where Peavey used to use the other two guitars on the same poster but say it’s a fraction of the price!

Make no mistake, these guitars were extremely well built - hence why if they have been looked after like this model has, are still going strong today. This probably weighs more than a traditional weight relieved Les Paul because its tone wood swamp ash is very dense - that and this obviously not being weight relieved! - definitely provides a unique tone. So if you like the feel of heavy guitars this one is for you!

This guitar has been gigged but has been very well looked after. It comes from a smoke free home. The overall cosmetic condition of this guitar considering it’s 45 years old is excellent. It shows a few cosmetic scuffs and marks, the main one being on the back where there is some belt buckle rash (see photos), a few dings on some edges and a tiny bit of lifting on the pick guard at the top side where I’m assuming someone used to put a spare pick in there while playing! I’ve tried to capture these as best I can in the photos. It plays wonderfully with a 12" fretboard radius and the frets are rolled off at the ends and don’t dig in.

The T-60 has been set up for my band and is in drop b tuning with the bottom string being a seperate single which is a 68 gauge tuned down to F# with a fairly low action. Strings used are D’Addario Baritone lights - So very specific to my needs and handles very well due to the 25 1/2 inch scale length. The tuning stability on this guitar is excellent. I would probably recommend a tech give the guitar a thorough going over and giving it a set up suited to either standard or whatever your desired tuning is. As the nut has been filed for thicker gauge strings it may be the case that the nut might need replacing should you wish to revert back to thinner gauge strings. If it is being re-set up it probably wouldn’t hurt to give all the electrics a looking over too - this is something I haven’t needed to do since I’ve owned it but considering its age now, It wouldn’t hurt.

The guitar comes with its original hard case, also another main tell tale sign this is a 78 is because Peavey issued the T-60 when it first arrived on the scene with a square case with a form fitting nice bronze velour interior as opposed to the later models with the horrible plastic triangle case. This again is in good condition for its age, clasps still lock etc and have very light surface rust. The case overall has a few scuffs and marks as to be expected but nothing to be concerned about. I don’t have the key for the case, I’ve never locked it and I wouldn’t know if that still worked to be honest. It does it’s job at protecting the guitar and that’s the important thing.

I would love to be in a position to keep all my guitars but sadly I have to let this one go.
