A vintage stoneware Henry McKenna hand made Kentucky whiskey short quart jug with a cork.
The jug is in great condition. There is no liquor inside the jug.
Henry McKenna was an Irish immigrant who came to Kentucky in 1837. He opened a flour mill in Fairfield, Kentucky in 1855 where he ground wheat into flour for his neighbors. The gristing process yielded a great deal of waste so he bought a farm to feed the waste to farm animals. There was still alot of waste so he decided to make wheat whiskey and set up a wooden still in the back of his flour mill. He turned out about a barrel of whiskey a day and then began experimenting with corn and charred oak barrels.
Eventually his whiskey was in great demand because of the care he took in making it. He was a patriarch of Kentucky whiskey and founder of "Whiskey Row" in Louisville.
This jug dates to the late 1960's and measures 7 1/2" tall.
