Fabulous Campaign Leather Cased Silver Tincture Bottles by John Pound & Co (HM.1911/2)

John Pound & Co. were well known and respected manufacturers of luggage and travel goods. They listed The Board of the Admiralty, HM Customs, Royal Mint and India Office amongst their customers. They also advertised that they sold Plate Chests, Campaign & Cabin Furniture and Naval & Military Equipage. They had outlets in The Strand, Piccadilly, Tottenham Court, Oxford St & Leadenhall, London and originally established in 1865.

This small soft leather chest holds 4 identical faceted glass bottles with solid silver screw top lids, all hallmark for London 1911/2 along with the makers mark “JP & Co”. The bottles all have remnants of the tinctures used with labels to each one, “Koko, Cinamon, Diarrhoea Mixture & Ponds Extract”.

Each 9.5cmH bottle has faceted shoulders with good aged wear to the bases. The screw top lids, are in great condition with slightly worn marks due to polishing but are still eligible and with the bottles, they fit snuggly in the soft leather case, which has a buckled strap loops to the exterior. The case measures 9cm x 9cm x 10.5cmH and has the odd stain commensurate with its use.

Simply superb!
