ANTIQUE CIRCA 1790 CHERRY INLAID CT. FEDERAL SECRETARY DESK ON  BRACKET BASE   ORIGINALLY FROM THE OLD SHREWSBURY MUSEUM

As the title states this piece is from the Federal Period (1780-1820). (Federal not Chippendale) Please understand the meaning of the term circa. The opinion of the museum and several dealers we have consulted with all have pointed to the late 1700's.

Size:   42.5" wide x 94" high and 21" deep.

This is a real beauty and not something we normally have in stock. This is a very fine cherry case piece with satinwood inlaid medallions having a highly decorative interior with several dividers and drawers. Sits on a bold, tall bracket dovetailed base. The original crown or bonnet top shows an old repair as does the molding on the desk lid. The pulls are old replacements. The finials are probably replacements. Old museum inventory label in both sections. Some rose head nails are still evident on back boards which is more of a 18th c. indicator than 19th. Really a fine investment piece.
