Virgil Abloh’s legacy continues with the Air Force 1 Mid c/o Off-White™ "Sheed." The all-black patent leather upper and fade-away logo pay homage to early-aughts basketball and one of the most influential players of the time: Rasheed Wallace.
Sheed's dedication to the AF1 over the course of his career helped reinvigorate the icon for a new generation, and his name and number appear throughout the design. Pushing the legendary look through the futurist lens of Off-White™, the design taps into nostalgia to celebrate a figure who pushed the game and culture of basketball to new levels.
Virgil Abloh's boundary-pushing ethos delivers a modernized and referential meditation on one of history's most revered sneakers.
Unveiled at the “Virgil Abloh: The Codes c/o Architecture” exhibit in Miami during the first weekend of December 2022, the sneaker reinterprets one-time NBA champion Rasheed Wallace’s iconic black patent leather Air Force 1 High Player-Exclusive (P.E.) from the 2000s.
Although Abloh’s project features a shorter silhouette and signature Off-White detailing (i.e. zip ties, Helvetica font, extra lacing), the posthumous offering includes ‘sheed’s logo on the lateral heel, as well as his jersey number (30) on the ankle strap.
“Sheed” Air Force 1 Mid may garner more attention than “Pine Green” and “Graffiti” styles given its historic and cultural significance.
