Dalia Lidija Mataitiene
We notice that Dalia Mataitiene's "Hanging cube" is one of the most impressive ones at the exhibition!
Scenographer Dalia Mataitienė first studied painting. However, he quickly realized that this field is highly ideological and strictly controlled, so he chose a compromise path - he switched to scenography studies. It was while working as a scenographer that it was easier for her to realize what was interesting - to create a generalized image, while continuing to paint.
in 1965 she designed the costumes for the TV ballet The Spruce Queen. Using the theme of a folk tale, she extended the game with abstract ornaments already in the painting compositions "Eglė" and "Žilvinas". Among the many cycles created by the artist, the series "Linen Poem" has acquired the closest expression to Opart. And although such works were not accepted for exhibitions during the Soviet era, in 1973 these works were not caught by the censors in the personal scenography (!) exhibition. in 1984 Mataitienė was even awarded the State Prize of the Slovak Republic. The artist understood the limitations applied to creators of abstractions and took advantage of the loopholes of the system in order to achieve creative freedom.
The Minister of Culture, Simonas Kairys, states that "we have lost an artist gifted with exceptional talent, who devoted most of her strength and talents to the art of theater and the cultivation of folklore, who sought and found the harmony of folk traditions and modern scenography". "The light of Dalia Mataitienė's personality, the original artistic world created, and her respect for the history of our nation will be constantly witnessed by her works exhibited in the largest museums of Lithuania. I express my sincere condolences to the relatives, colleagues, and the entire cultural community," the minister said in his condolences distributed on Thursday. In his condolences, President Gitanas Nausėda said that D. Mataitienė's activities will always remain "an example of bold, immediately recognizable artistic decisions and at the same time the unfolding of our cultural identities".
The widely known and recognized work of the artist, set designer, developed together with the late Povilas Mataičius in the Lithuanian Folklore Theater, remains one of the pillars and luminaries of Lithuanian culture and cultural history," reads the condolence of the country's leader.
Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen said that the cultural community has lost a "bright, unique and talented artist whose work was widely known and appreciated not only by Lithuanian but also foreign viewers". "I sincerely sympathize with D. Mataitienė's family, relatives, colleagues and fans of her talent for this loss," said the head of the parliament. D. Mataitienė was born on June 6, 1936 in Klaipėda. She graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute, since 1960 she has participated in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad: in Russia, Brazil, Italy, Denmark, France. In 1959-1961, she was an artist of the Lithuanian Academic Drama Theater, in 1962-1964 - of the ensemble Lithuania, in 1964-1965 - of the Lithuanian Film Studio. In 1998, the artist was awarded the medal of the Order of Gediminas, and in 2010, together with her husband Povilas Mataičius, the Lithuanian national prize.
