This wonderful massive 12” tall antique Japanese Cloisonné vase, depicting a blooming iris is a beautiful piece of art from the Meji era bearing the mark for Ando in gold wire. I assure you that you will not see another piece like this anytime soon. The gold wire mark and the sterling stamped rims indicates that this piece is of better quality and dates this piece back to around 1900. You cannot really appreciate the scale of this piece until you have it in front of you. The colors, shading, and precision is unparalleled. I suspect this was specially made to be displayed. I’ve never seen this vibrant use of color in a piece in any size before, let alone one as big as this. I’ve posted photos of the piece with a ruler to give you some impression of the scale. It’s a full 6” across just the foot. This all being said, the shape, the size, and the depiction of the subject all work together synergistically to create an impression that really dominates the room. There’s no missing it when you walk in. The vase is pleasingly shaped, with a wonderful wide shouldered form, and measures 12” tall in excellent condition. Very heavy and very well constructed. Beautifully counter enameled in an electric blue. No chips cracks or repairs. Polish is beautiful and the artist was well in control of the surface. No pitting or bubble pops. Beautifully fired and polished. Please take note of the exceptional use of the Musen wireless technique. When you step back the effect is amazing. The floral arrangement really looks real and the leaves that are depicted in the background give it a wonderful sense of depth. This could be Gonda working for Ando. Just an amazing work of art. This item is a perfect addition to any collection of Asian antiques, especially for those who appreciate the art and history of Japan. Don't miss out on the chance to own this unique and exquisite piece of history.
