Antique Large Indonesian/Java Carved Hardwood Box - Peacock/Serpents/Birds 43x33

A very well carved Indonesian box in hardwood, possibly teak, detailed carving to the top of a peacock, serpents and birds, further carving to the sides and internally there is a panel depicting what looks like a humming bird but please see photos. Usable but does have some issues. The lock is branded C SCHLIEPER REMSCHEID, for Carl Schlieper a German hardware company from Remscheid, Germany. The company operated in the Dutch East Indies (part of Modern Day Indonesia) and had a pavilion at the Colonial Exhibition of Semarang in 1914.

I have included a number of photos and these probably describe the item better than I can and form part of the description. Everyone has different considerations when purchasing items and if you need any further information, please feel free to contact me and I will try to help.

Condition: Far from perfect but the main box is structurally sound, there is a split to the front edge of the lid, chips to the corners, the odd chip to the carved surface, one section of a foot is missing and there is a small chip to another foot. The internal lining has a slither missing. Dust to the recessed surface. No key for the lock and the lock is untested. The odd small mark.

Size: 43cm by 33cm by 13.4cm high, internal 39.5cm by 29.5cm by 7cm to the top of internal lining. 2.9kg.

Please feel free to ask any questions but please please ask through Ebay. Unfortunately, selling on Ebay generates a lot of spam and dubious emails and we now only respond to questions placed directly through Ebay. We will try to answer questions as soon as possible. There are times where we may not be able to reply within 24 hours but we will reply well before the listing ends.

Packing - We pack to ensure the item arrives with you undamaged. If you have specific packing instructions, please contact us before paying as this may have an impact on the price, as both an increase in weight or size can increase the cost of delivery.

We do try to recycle boxes and other materials wherever possible and will mostly use newspaper for padding out, if it does not have any impact on the cost of postage.
