Excellent Large Solid Brass Prismatic Surveyors Compass by Francis Barker & Son (d.1932)

Francis Barker & Son (Est 1848) is a British design and manufacturing company based in Edenbridge, Kent (Originally Clerkenwell), which provides military-grade electro-optical products, search and location equipment, educational material and radio electronics. The trademark became notable as a supplier of precision equipment to allied forces in Europe during the Great War and Second World War, particularly compasses and sextants.

This particular one has been stripped and cleaned as it was quite filthy within. Made from solid brass with an aluminium dial, locking buttons and prismatic lens. It measures 4” in diameter with the removable lid stamped with F.S & S Ltd (1932) and the base having a screw thread for the stand.
