ANTIQUE NAVAJO NATIVE AMERICAN MOTHER-IN-LAW BELL EARRINGS ~ HANDMADE ~ AUTHENTIC!

This is a really rare find.  This is a pair of authentic Navajo Mother-in-Law bells that have been made into a gorgeous pair of earrings.  This set of antique bells dates from the late 19th to early 20th century.  They are in excellent condition and are on a pair of sterling silver wires.  These are the real deal.  This pair was originally purchased at a gallery in Tesuque, New Mexico outside of Santa Fe nine about ten years ago.

"Bells.  The Navajo also made tiny bells.  Grey Moustache says the Mexican taught the Navajo how to make them many years ago, when they first learned to work silver.  They were made as often and were as popular as buttons.  Both sexes wore them at dances and women wore them attaches to their sashes around their waists to warn their sons-in-law of their approach as no Navajo was supposed to look on his wife's mother.  Hence, the term mother-in-law bells."  ~ Margery Bedinger, University of New Mexico Press, 1973.

They measure 1-1/2" in length from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the bell.  The bells themselves measure approximately 1" in size.  They are in excellent antique condition without any damage, dents or dings to the bells.  These are not the reproduction mother-in-law earrings that you usually find online or in the trading posts, they are antique authentic Navajo mother-in-law bells.  The earring display stand is not included in the sale.  This is an authentic pair of Native American history that doesn't come along too often.
