39CT 100% Natural Pilot Mountain Calico Polychrome Turquoise High Dome Cabochon.  Shape: Triangular

This rough is unique even by Pilot standards!  Whether it is from unimaginably strong geological forces or just mineral percolation, this stone features some of the richest and varied patterns of turquoise I have encountered.  You'll notice from the gate that the turquoise coloration is a rich mix of blues from sky to some of the darkest I have ever seen!

And the contrasts!  They deserve a whole second paragraph - they are deep rich and varied - And no two are even close to being alike.  Part of the reason for this is the variance of the matrices. Part shale, part iron ore, part sedimentary matrix - the colors vary quite a bit even within one stone.  This is from the second batch I have cut as promised.

This is very dense hard material.  Jeweler's Grade to be sure and a dream to work with, strong, forgiving.

Pilot Mountain is located in Western Nevada and like so many turquoise mines, it was born of a copper mine and to date the two enterprises have not clashed.  That is a good thing because when copper butts heads with turquoise, copper wins.
