Doc Martin is a British medical comedy-drama television series starring Martin Clunes as Doctor Martin Ellingham. It was created by Dominic Minghella developing the character of Dr Martin Bamford from the Nigel Cole comedy film Saving Grace (2000). The programme is set in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn and filmed on location in the village of Port Isaac, Cornwall, United Kingdom, with most interior scenes shot in a converted local barn. Fern Cottage is used as the home and surgery of Doctor Ellingham.


Nine series aired between 2004 and 2019, with a television film airing on Christmas Day in 2006. The ninth series aired on ITV premiered in September 2019. The tenth (and final) series aired from 7 September 2022 to 26 October 2022; one last installment, a Christmas special that aired on 25 December 2022, was the programme's final episode. On 29 December 2022 a documentary entitled “Farewell Doc Martin” aired on ITV, featuring behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew as they filmed the final series. It also looked back at highlights from the 18 years of the show.

Doc Martin: Series One stars Martin Clunes (Men Behaving Badly, William and Mary, Goodbye, Mr Chips) as Doctor Martin Ellingham, a celebrated London surgeon who turns his back on city life and moves to a sleepy Cornish village to become the local doctor.


Despite his surgical brilliance, Doc Martin has no interpersonal skills and his bedside manner soon starts to upset his new patients, causing havoe throughout the village! As the community becomes united in horror at their foul new GP, the good doctor soon finds he needs all the allies he can get as he tries to negotiate his way around village life with hilarious consequences!


Martin Clunes is joined by a prestigious cast including Stephanie Cole (Waiting for God, Tenko), Caroline Catz (Murder in Suburbia, The Vice), lan McNeice (Ace Ventura, A Life Less Ordinary), Joe Absolom (POW, EastEnders), Lucy Punch (Being Julia, Midsomer Murders) and Felicity Montagu (I'm Alan Partridge) as the colourful and loveable locals of Portwenn.
