Ramayana :

Bharat, the younger brother of Lord Rama and son of Kaikeyi, comes to the forest and begs Lord Rama to go back to Ayodhya with him. But Lord Rama refuses as he wishes to fulfil the promise he made to his father. So Bharat takes his wooden slippers and says that he would place them on the throne of Ayodhya as a symbol that Lord Rama is true King of Ayodhya and Bharat would rule only as his deputy till the exile of 14 years was over.
