Oval two-sided bronze casting, manufacturer: Tauer, Berlin. Marginal hallmark: DS 56 31. (Medal 31)

Obverse: Falling German soldier, his helmet falls to the ground at the back right, is held by an angel. Below is the signature F. SCHENKEL.

Reverse: Pickelhaube wreathed with oak leaves and Iron Cross & bayonet below.

Reverse:  "VND WER DEN TOD IM HEILGEN / KAMPFE FAND // RVHT AVCH IN / FREMDER ERDE IM VATERLAND" (He who found death in holy battle, also rests in foreign soil in the fatherland)

Albert Methfessel (6 October 1785 – 23 March 1869)
The text is the final verse from the marching song for the volunteer snipers of the Schwarzburg House, written in 1813 by Albert Gottlieb Methfessel he was a German composer and conductor.
