A mid 19th century carved ebony figure of an African slave, standing gagged, his hands chained behind his back and wearing chain shackles, on an oblong plinth.

These figures were used by Abolitionists to draw attention to the anti-slavery movement. There is a very similar nutcracker figure on show at the Nutcracker Museum, Washington, USA.
