VTG Herman Miller Eames Girard La Fonda Side Table Base Pre-Production Prototype?
Here is a very interesting piece from my private collection. This aluminum La Fonda table base was purchased years ago from the estate of a once Herman Miller Vice President who worked there in the 80's. This was a complete table received as a "corporate gift" from Herman Miller at the time. The family used this table outdoors at their residence in Holland on Lake Macatawa, very near the infamous Herman Miller Marigold Lodge. At some point the original stone top was cracked, and the table was retired to the back of the garage for years and years. Unfortunately, the top was not salvageable, and discarded. Unlike production tables which are two piece, this base has four individual legs MIG welded on the top and bottom. This configuration leads me to believe that this table was a pre-production prototype that was gifted to the then Vice President from the HM archives. The base foot print is 16" by 15", and the top table mounts span approximately 11" by 8". The base had the standard Eames glides but were all broken and have been removed. Base shows years of patina and oxidation as pictured. There are a few scrapes on one post as pictured.
This table base went from Herman Miller, to the then Vice President, to me, and now to you!!
