ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:
Hold the openings of the lantern in each hand. Gently expand
and collapse the lantern a few times like an accordion. This will
help stretch the paper to help prevent rips once you insert the frame.
The lantern has one small opening (the bottom) and one larger opening
(the top). The top has two small metal loops this is where the two nubs
on the frame fit in. Gently insert the narrow end of frame into the larger
opening of the lantern and insert the nubs into the loops of the lantern.
The Frame may bend a bit and this is perfectly normal.

JAPANESE OBON - LANTERN FESTIVAL
Obon is one of the most important holidays in Japanese culture, and
is a time of year when families welcome the spirits of the ancestors into
their homes for a brief visit among their living descendants. On the last
day of the three-day observance, families gather with the community to
light the way back to the otherworld for the departing ancestors with floating
lanterns called toro nagashi, or with large fires lit on the slopes of nearby
mountains since the otherworld is traditionally regarded as lying beyond
the sea or mountains. The ancestors are believed to depart for the otherworld
guided by the illuminated lanterns and farewell fires.
