I think this is pretty much the last of the handkerchiefs my Mum was sent during the war, this one by her brother a Lancaster tail gunner and DFC.  He flew on 38 ops I think.  She wrote several local boys and received kerchiefs, sweetheart pins, jewellery etc.  These lads were glad to have somebody to write home too other than their mothers!

These kerchiefs would have been made by ladies who would have been glad of the change to make a bit of pin money during the war.  It's hand embroidered on silk and I would like to speculate that it was a cut up and dyed parachute but I don't know how I would tell.

The patriotic flags are neat, showing New Zealand, Australia, the US and a red ensign with an anchor on it?  That one's got me.

Good luck and thanks for looking at one of The Mighty Atom's sales.
