DETAIL: Barker was born in 1954 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, the son of a well known musical family on both his mother’s and father’s side.  A golf professional for nearly twelve years from 1972, Peter embarked on a new career as a painter in late 1983.  Although self-taught, he did receive much early encouragement from renowned landscape artist Caesar Smith.
Peter Barker’s passion for the British countryside is reflected in his work which conveys an acute sense of observation and knowledge.  Often Peter returns to the same wood, stretch of river or coastline, portraying it in different weather, season and time of day.  He has not settled into any one niche of painting; rather, he finds painting such a wide variety of subjects, from landscape, marine, wildlife and portraits, both on a large scale and small, in oil, pastel, acrylic or watercolour, keeps his work fresh and his desire to paint unceasing, limited only by the number of hours in a day.  Peter paints both in the field ‘en plein air’ and in the studio at home in Rutland.  In 1994 Peter was featured in a short film on Anglia Television.
Now, with numerous highly acclaimed solo exhibitions behind him, Peter Barker’s work graces collections all over the world and is in ever-increasing demand.  Peter is also a regular exhibitor at the Pastel Society, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries in London.  Peter’s awards include the Frank Herring Award at the Pastel Society in 2006, the Ranelagh Press Award for ‘An outstanding Small Oil’ at the ROI in 2009 and the Stanley Grimm Award for the public’s favourite painting at the ROI in 2009.

BUYER NOTIFICATION:
Glass & Glazing: As per our Shipping Terms (found in the shipping tab below) we do not post glass to prevent the high likelihood of transit damage and also for handlers safety- replacement glass costs just a few pounds and can be easily slipped into the picture on arrival where applicable (i.e. prints & watercolours).
Frames: Because of the fragile nature of picture frames, all frames are offered free with the painting. You are welcome to ask questions about the frame condition before buying but we cannot accept returns or requests for 'part refunds' because a frame arrives with some existing damage not sustained in transit.
