Selling our much loved 1959 fordson major diesel.

I purchased in 2020 in running order but worse for wear as a retirement project for my engineer dad to get stuck into with me. We fully stripped the tractor and engine. Re-built from the ground up. New parts include fordson mud guards, new liners, head skim and all new gaskets. New lift pump and full new oil and filters. Full re paint, new lights. And brand new rear tyres. It took us 6 months to complete and have it back in working order.

Since then it's been regularly used on our small holding pulling a vintage gang mower cutting 12 acres every 2 weeks through summer since rebuild. Running a wood chipper on the PTO, mucking out with the Flemming rear tipper / loader and shunting trailers around. Even done a few weddings  and shows.

Unfortunately the old man's on his way out and I don't have the time to use it and keep it in good order. These old things need to be worked. Doesn't seem right doing shows when I do get the chance without the old man as it was always a joint thing so I've decided to let the tractor go for someone else to enjoy.


Bad bits- new lights we never did wire up. Front ones fitted, rear ones not. Still have them in packaging and will go with it.


Last time dad had it out in December he said it had a couple of small holes developed in the radiator and does loose water. Plan had been to get it back in the workshop, strip the radiator off and send it away to a specialist who can re line it as we couldn't find a replacement. Unfortunately his health took a bad turn  then and bar me giving it a few mins run up every couple of weeks it's sat unused.


Rear brakes we never could get working. Always just used the handbrake if you need to stop sharp. We were in too much of a rush to get it out and used we just never sorted all the above.


Hydraulics are all strong and working as they should. Lifts the Flemming box fully loaded with manure no bother and doesn't loose pressure. Lifts and dumps tipping trailer.PTO working as it should.  It's a great bit of kit and it's been fun to restore and use. Flemming tipping link box included in the sale. Fully road registered with v5. I will be fitting a brand new battery before it sells.
