This is an early very hard to find konishiroku idea kabine military folding camera in 5x7 size, made in 1928. it is a close copy of the goerz press camera made around 1900, one of the earliest press cameras reporters preferred for its compact folding abilities and picture taking capabilities!
There is a small plaque on the top right of the camera with japanese military markings, i have provided a photo of the rough english translation of this plaque!
The camera has top and bottom struts to fold in and out,
it folds quite flat and measures about 2 1/4 inches thick not counting the back or lens. When expanded ready to take photos it extends out to about 8 1/2 inches. The lens also extends out via helical focusing.
The lens is rokuoh sha tokyo hexar 18cm f4.5
the focus turns smooth and lens extends out fine! The lens glass looks good overall, no scratches, and needs minor cleaning.
The camera takes 5x7 size cut film backs, it comes with a few original magazines!
The camera has thick leather bellows, they show some use and age but overall look good, top fold up finder fold in and out well and sees clearly, all the controls are on the right side of the camera, including the focal plane wind-up knob for film advance, speed settings and release button.
The focal shutter curtain is in its place, looks good overall, the advance key / lever works and advances the curtain fairly ok, pressing the release lever partially works, the first curtain comes down nicely but the second curtain does not come down and shutter stays open. i do not want to force anything so i will say the shutter needs adjustments.
The rear hood opens up to reveal the focusing glass, and also the entire rear can come off to reveal the focal plane shutter and mount the magazine!
Overall a very nice looking hard to find early japanese military camera, comes with cut film backs pictured and shade hood for lens
