Cassava - Manioc

Latin name: Manihot esculenta

Manioc is a woody shrub native to South America but extensively cultivated in tropical regions worldwide. Although a perennial plant, manioc is widely grown as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical areas for its edible starchy tuber. Manioc is predominantly consumed in cooked form, but the starch extracted from the tubers is also used to produce tapioca, widely utilized in the food industry. Brazilian farinha and West African garri are also made from manioc.
