The history of the Lakeside Press Classics is fascinating. The company undertook re-publication of carefully selected American classics (or under -appreciated volumes) to demonstrate its prowess at publishing beautiful, high quality books. They didn't sell these republished classics; they printed only enough to give to clients & employees as Christmas gifts. The publisher selected what they considered either the BEST American classics, or those that had been overlooked by the critics. Go to Wikipedia to read more; it's riveting!

This particular volume (and I have 2 others in my ebay store) is the reminiscences of Henry Tibbles, who spent a lifetime of involvement in as an activist for an Indian reform and later as a candidate for vice president of the US. He had left home at the age of 11 to go west. Later, homesteading in Nebraska, he became a spokesman for the suffering Nebraska settlers. Finally, he championed Indian rights after the government botched the relocation of the Poncha tribe. Tibbles' memoir gives us an opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with the complexities of Indian resettlement. It was an exciting time in America's westward expansion but a troubling one as well. It's illustrated with B&W etchings, extractions from newspapers of the time, and maps of early America. Will be treasured by the lover of factual accounts of the American West & the student of the impact of US westward expansion on the Native American population. Also, a treat for those who appreciate top notch binding and publishing.

This 7" x 4-1/2" dark-brown cloth-bound volume is in very good condition. The top page-ends are gold gilt; the cover features the shiny gold R.R. Donnelly & Co logo / seal with gold gilt title / author / publisher on spine.

Condition: No writing inside, text-block is solid, hinges tight, cover corners sharp. The only flaw is that the book was subject to mild humidity and the bottom 2" of the pages, throughout, is VERY slightly rippled. Hardly noticeable. See final photo.

As of the date of this listing, I have several other Lakeside Press volumes in my ebay store. If you'd like more than one, please message me for a package deal and discounted shipping.
